Bluegrass for Blues.
Goals
We are musicians; we play bluegrass, a musical genre that was named after the blue grass of Kentucky. Blue is also the colour of autism. We are planning a charity event at the Ferencváros Cultural Centre to benefit Mozaik Association which supports people with autism. The event will involve concerts, an instrument exhibition, presentations and a joyful jam session.
The issue
Families raising children with autism often do not have enough information about autism, nor the allowances and services they are entitled to. This is what Mozaik Association addresses: they run an information centre, provide training, and disseminate information. Families affected by autism often find themselves isolated as they try to find a solution to their problems on their own. Therefore, we set ourselves the mission to build q community.
Activities and timeframe
The funds raised through Swimathon will be used to cover the costs of the charity event “Bluegrass for Blue”. This one-day event will take place at our usual rehearsal space, the Ferecváros Cultural Centre, and will bring together members and friends of the Hungarian bluegrass community. The amount remaining after the event, as well as the funds raised there, will be transferred in whole to Mozaik. Based on our agreement, Mozaik will use these funds for the following: training for parents, parents’ club, inclusive playgroup, awareness raising, information materials. In addition, Mozaik organises summer camps in the nearby Dunaharaszti, where children, with or without autism, can have a fun time together. The funds raised through Swimathon will be used to support the camp as well.

Venue rental: free
Sound equipment: 250,000HUF
Honoraria for performers and presenters: approx. 600,000HUF
Accommodation costs, sustenance for guest from abroad: 100,000HUF
Organisation, advertising, communications costs: 250,000HUF
TOTAL: 1,200,000HUF
How do you plan to use the funds raised through Swimathon?
We would like to raise at least 1,500,000 HUF during the Swimathon campaign. One part of the raised amount, as detailed above, will be used for organising the event “Bluegrass for Blue”. The remaining amount will be transferred directly to Mozaik Association. We aim to provide as much financial support for Mozaik as possible through carrying out further fundraising and relying on other resources as well. Mozaik is planning to use the donation – depending on the final amount raised – for the items detailed under point 3.
What kind of impact do you wish to achieve and how do you plan to assess it?
We will have exact data about the number of guests attending the Bluegrass for Blue event. We can reach out to many more people by making a video recording of the programme or streaming live from it. We hope to have 300-500 attendees at the event and reach another 1500 2000 people through the video and streaming. The event is intended to facilitate and maintain direct contact (through the registration at the entry, as well as face-to-face meeting) between Mozaik and supporters and anyone who is interested.
Name and mission of the implementing organisation:
Csillag Kórus Association is a group of bluegrass singers, young people and volunteers. Bluegrass is connected to the project through music. The (15-20-year-old) young people who take part in the association’s work and the Swimathon campaign may benefit greatly from the experience of volunteering, doing charity work and learning about people with disabilities.
